Like many hard core Nike heads back in the day, it took me a while to come around to other brands like Asics. The Asics Gel Saga Mint is one of my favorite colorways in the Gel Saga line.
If you check the official colorway, “mint” doesn’t actually appear, but to the sneakerhead community, these definitely fit the bill.
I tend to go with black and grey outfits with these. I definitely avoid wearing too much additional teal. It seems like these would be given to overkill if too much mint is added back into the fit. A few pops of the light blue here and there won’t hurt however.
If you’re looking for that trendy casual retro runner look, I highly recommend checking out some Gel Sagas from Asics! I swapped in some rope laces on these and I think it looks great! Some Asics models can benefit from this, but the rope laces thing isn’t a universal rule and it won’t always improve the shoe’s look. Definitely hit or miss on the Gel Saga silhouette.
How Are The Materials?
The materials are a mixture of suede and mesh. Since these are technically a GR, the material quality isn’t great but its decent enough and at least is on par with a similar Nike release. Subsequent GR’s are a wild card with respect to suede quality, and compared to later releases, these definitely stand out.
How Do They Fit?
The Asics Gel Saga Mint are really light and fit true to size. I might have been able to go down a half size but it would have been risky. Where these one-up a lot of classic Nike runner retros is the shape. Asics tends to maintain an old school “pointy-toe” shape while Nike has moved more in the “banana” direction with their retros.
